About Laura

You’ve been here at Bronswick Benjamin for about 15 years now. What is about this environment that keeps it such a special place to work for you?

It's a great culture with terrific people, for one. I'm actually very good friends with a lot of the people that we work with. I just love dealing with our clients here. The firm provides me with everything I need to grow. For example, if I need training or wish to attend a seminar, I know BB will help me get the continuing education our industry requires. Since I'm out of the office quite a bit, the firm makes sure that I have the tools I need to do my job efficiently.

By now you’ve probably had a lot of nice client stories, so tell us a little bit about one of your favorite client relationships.

Oh sure. I can think of one where I've been working on them now for about five years. I go down to their office once a month. I have a great relationship with everyone in their office but particularly with my main contact. We share stories about our families and I consider him a good friend.

When I visit this client, I typically work in their software to close the books every month. Our process is so efficient because they take what I say to heart and trust me. They trust in suggestions that I make. I’ve also moved on to helping them prepare annual budgets and personal tax planning. It really all fits together. I am relied on by the client and they know they can contact me with even the smallest questions.

You don’t usually hear a client referred to as a friend, but that must reflect how strong your connection is.

Absolutely. I have a lot of clients I deal with that I have more than just the typical client/accountant relationship. I consider them to be friends. The work is, of course, important, but I just love talking to people. Most of the clients I work with have my cell phone number and can text me. I'm very accessible to all my clients.

Even though you’re not always in the office, how do you collaborate with other members of the team at BB?

It's an “all for one, one for all” environment so you don’t have a feeling of competition amongst each other – BB is always technologically improving our ability to work remotely from any location, should the need arise. There are plenty of qualified people at the firm to help. This is very important since the firm’s growing like crazy. Everyone in the firm is highly approachable. There are always opportunities to take on new work and new challenges.

Finally, for people who wouldn't know, share something that you’re passionate about outside of these walls of BB that you enjoy doing when you're not working and helping out our clients. What kinds of things do you like to do for fun?

I spend a lot of time with my family, especially my 17-year-old son who takes up most of my time. I'm also kind of a restaurant foodie and like to try many different restaurants. My son and I try to do as much volunteering as we can with organizations like Feed My Starving Children and Sarah’s Circle. I have recently embarked on a new adventure as a dog owner. I’ve never owned one before — Marty, a 1-year-old rescued Yorkie and Terrier mix has become our newest family member.
